Bordesley Village Primary School

A place for every one.

Welcome to 5B Autumn term 2017!

We have had a very good start to the new academic year.
This Autumn term, in ‘Knowledge and Understanding of the World’, the children will be learning all about the ‘Ancient Greeks’ where we will be looking at how they lived their lives and their beliefs too.

Our class text that we will be reading and linking with our literacy is called ‘The Garbage King’ by Elizabeth Laird. Within the literacy lessons, we will be looking at imagery in poetry, adventure story writing, instructional writing, explanations and leaflets.

In Maths, we are going to help make sure all the children have strong arithmetic skills by doing 6 a day to start every lesson. We will be: covering number and place value up to ten million; checking pupils are secure with mental and written addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and then looking at statistics.

We are going to be using Mathletics- an on-line maths programme designed to help support children with all the areas of maths, both in school and at home.
For science, we will be concentrating on ‘Life Cycles’ in the first half term and then looking at ‘Forces’ in the second half. The children will be carrying out a range of investigations and observations to help deepen their knowledge.

In computing the children are learning to be game designers using Scratch and in PE we are starting the year learning the skills needed to play netball / basketball.

In our RE lessons the first disposition is ‘Caring for others’ we will be learning all about marriage and weddings to start the year. We next move on to the disposition of ‘Sharing and being generous.’
We held an expectations meeting for all our parents in September and thank you for your support in making sure the children are doing their very best to achieve in school. If you wish to come and speak to us about anything, please feel free to do so.

PE for 5A is on Monday and Thursday, please ensure your child brings their kit in every week!
