At our school the children have been taking part in Spanish lessons for the last 4 years.
The children learn Spanish from Year 2 to Year 6. Spanish is taught through our topics. This gives the children a greater and more meaningful understanding of how language is used in many different situations.
We use games and activities which promote pupil particpation, active learning and speaking and listening. The children enjoy the new experience of speaking Spanish in and around the school.
The school has taken part in the International School Awards through the British Council. We have achieved the Intermediate Award and are looking forward to achieving the full award.
To encourage and promote Spanish in our school four staff attended Barcelona University for an intensive course in Spanish followed by shadowing a teacher in a Spanish primary school. This has been followed up with links with a partner school in Spain whereby the children can now correspond with other children in Spain. We have also hosted visits from colleagues in Barcelona, to see how teaching differs between countries.
